I know this topic has come up before, but I was hoping that someone could offer some advice on my specific situation.
I have a couple of small blowers on my fireplace and was hoping to add a fan control but don’t want to destroy or shorten the life of the motors doing so. On the motors is the following info:
The Alliance Mfg. Co. Inc.
Model J60C
21 Watts
115 Volts
60 Hertz
Impedance Protected
JS06420
9335
My best bet is that the motors are from the late 70s. The Alliance Mfg. Co. is now Genie. I haven’t contacted them as of yet.
I know that a dimmer switch is not the right option, but I was hoping to use a fan control to reduce the fan speed and keep the room quieter. If a fan control is the wrong solution, is there a better solution? If one of these motors were to give out, what would be the best replacement for it?
Thanks,
Rich

Sounds like an induction motor, and unfortunately speed control on those is a crapshoot. Could work well, could work poorly, could set the motor on fire.
