So I’m getting my roof re-done and new gutters installed. 1939 cape style in Boston with very steeply pitched roof. Fascia board has (actually “had”) a crown moulding on it. I removed the moulding so that I can mount K-style aluminum gutters directly to the fascia board.
The problem: After I removed the crown moulding, I discover that there’s a pretty big gap between the the top of the fascia and the roof sheathing. The fascia is 4-1/2″ wide, the gap is about an inch, and the roof sheathing overhangs the fascia by about 1-1/2″. Pictures are attached. The drip edge extended out over the crown moulding.
How do I deal with this? Do I need to replace the fascia with a wider one?

THey make straps to hang gutters from, they go under the shingles.
Crown didn't need to go.
What the problem is?
If you really want the crown to go away, tear it off. Then put a new fascia on with a roundover on the bottom 1/2" shorter than the original fascia for shadowlines.
Then have your roofers cut back the sheeting so the drip is tight to the new fascia.

Great minds think alike....thats zactly what I was going to say.

Not bad for a turkey huh? :)

Didn't we already do this?
The crown moulding looked better. Leave the old facia on and just nail a 1" X 6" on top of the old one. Looks won't matter since a rain guter will be in front of it.
