we’ve been provided #8 drywall screws to install our wall cabinets (Mill’s No Pride – frameless). when i suggested using #10s with cup washers, i received #10 exterior grade deck screws (appear to be galvanized) recommended by homeowner’s depot’s service desk guy who does have experience in kitchen remodelling. my boss felt that #8s were sufficient and are in half the homes in the country.
no other special attachment procedure – just screws through the cabinet backing. is there a better way to attach frameless cabinets to walls? seems to me that on a quality job (vs. our production job), one would at least use PL Premium to secure the backing to the cab…

Oh -Oh Please allow the great Piffin to lead you to the path of the dreaded SR screw.
To Piffin: Go easy on him please.
Roar!
Somebody call his house and get him outta bed.
Let the thunder crack and the waves roar.

#8 is fine, find a stud, skip the PL, you may want to remove them someday...
sometimes board sometimes knot
Ahem....
Sigh!
Brian, I seem to have been awarded a certain reputation with regards to screwing up
cabinets.

I must have come across with a strong bias once upon a time. If you use the little search button in the upper left area on your scree, and type in scres or SR Screws and let it go back maybe six months, you'll find volumns of reading on the subject. The editor has a screwy thread going on right now as well. I have found in my remodeling and removing prior installations of cabinets that far too many of them have been instaled with SR screws which have no place holding anything but SR up. They are too small and too brittle. Too many of the ones I remove are already broken off. I have seen cabs hanging by almost nothing and ready to fall off the wall.
I know it's not your fault because your boss is at the helm (the cheap bastard!) but print out a couple of the posts you find for him. If it were me hanging the cabs, I would be using my own screws, rather than use something that impacts my conscience like that.
In closing, I'd like toi say that I don't know why everyone pointed to me to answer this, they all know that only an idiot would use SR screws to hang cabs.
