I’m getting ready to screen in my front porch. My first instinct was to use standard concrete screws through the 2x into the ordinary red brick of my house. But now, looking down the road a bit, I’m wondering about future maintenance or replacement problems. If the studs need removed or replaced, will the screw holes in the brick stay tight and secure when I re-anchor the 2x, should I just go ahead and drill new holes when needed, or is there some other and better long term solution?

Tim - Standard approach for this in my book is to drill out and anchor into the mortar joints, not the brick, in case the work is ever removed. The mortar is much easier to match / patch, and less likely to spall than the face of the brick.

How obvious! Sometimes you don't see what is right in front of you; good thing I asked. Thanks, Jeff.
