A Stabila 48" level.
*Bosch 24V drill, circ, sawzall set. A little heavy, but power like corded stuff (well, almost, but still great...) A big step up from my still old favorite makita 9.6V stick battery stuff. It has been a good year; much to be thankful for. Rich.
*We bought a lot of tools this year (every year). I think the favorite of the guys in the shop is the Preforamx twin drum sander. How did we ever get along without it?Ed. Williams
*Paslode positive placement nailer no more smashed fingers when nailing hangers truss clips and strapping, Stabila six footerjim
*Mark, Does that new Paslode angled nailer shoot 15 guage nails or 16? Thanks Al
*Jim -I tried to get the truss company I work for to buy one of those once, and rent it out to contractors on big jobs with a ton of hangers. But the boss didn't think anyone would rent it. It's interesting to hear from someone who's actually used one.
*Ron it took a feww weeks to decide to go ahead and buy the gun. The $550 or so was kind of scary for a specialty tool, plus the fact that the builders were supplying hand drive hanger nails at no cost. Nails run about 50 or 60 bucks for 3000. I've had it since April and if you think you need it you should go for it. Paid for itself many times over already!I liked it so much I wrote this but FHB (andy) reviewed tool three years ago jim
*I bought a slightly used one on e-bay for $175.00, Paslode, used maybe once or twice. Paid for itself after 2 houses. I love it also, would not trade it for anything, however I use it only rarely. Low guy nails hangers and tie downs on my crew. One house usually takes 4-5 hours to nail off. With the paslode 1 hour, no black fingernails, no swearing, no thrown hammers.Life is good. Keith
*Ed, may i ask which one you bought? When i move to the new shop, i want to upgrade from my antique Kuster. Got the packet of info from Performax, but real life stories would be helpful. Did you compare to the wide-belts like Shen Shing (sp?) before buying?
*Jim at Great White, love your review. It's always good to discover a new way to screw things up faster, or ruin more material more thoroughly. I bought a jet mortising machine recently and have discovered I can add a mortise to a lot of things that could have done just fine without them. Sure takes a lot of extra time too. Fun though, gotta keep up with Norm. Joe H

*Wanted: Accomplished serious builders to evaluate a new layout tool I have patented. It is intended primarily for laying out circles and arches with radii up to 60'. It will also scribe straight lines. It is very precise and easy to use.I am in the process of producing a video taped demonstration and am trying to collect as much footage as possible. For those who are willing to take the time, I would offer a free tool after they go into production, which should be this summer.
*1. A 10 1/4" Bigfoot saw2. LevelLite self leveling pocket laser3. My Deathstick baseball cap that says"make the nail Bleed" on the back.
*Pro-Dek, please define "back" re your hat. I guess just your age would tell me what end you think of as the back......Grumpy ol Joe H
*Pro-Dek might be an old geezer like us. Or maybe thats somebody else.
*Joe, ever see one of those caps? they have the dead on logo on the front (over the bill) and embroidered words on the back (over the adjustable thingy) just to clear up this whole front/back issue.
*Thanks for answering that front/back thing Steve,The only time this old man wore his hat backwards was to keep the sun off his neck or put on a catchers mask.
*Reply to #9Hey Splints,We got the 25" twin drum with the single phase 5hp motor. It's very touchy. Hard to adjust up and down and tough to keep from burning paper. We are getting the hang of it though. I did not shop around.....just had to have one for a project and bought what was on the floor of my local saw and tool shop. As finiky as the machine is, once you get the hang of it it makes a beautiful sanding job of wide solid stock material. You just can't get those results with a belt sander. Caution.....it takes some serious dust collection to work well. My Powermatic 74 (?) double bagger couldn't keep up. But the new 5hp system we bought handles it easily. I'd look around if I was you and had the time.Good luck,Ed.
*No problem Pro-Dek, I just can't seem to understand the ball cap backwards and the pants about to fall down or big enough for three people, but then again I'm over 30 so I can't be trusted anymore ;)
