On this my first siding job, I’m putting on 8 1/4″ FC and am doing fine getting around receptacles and light boxes. But I’m wondering how you typically handle phone, cable, power wires?
I’ve found the Hardie plank much easier to work with than I’d expected.
It cuts easily with a cheap diamond circ saw blade, or carbide jig saw blade, and isn’t nearly as noisy as a previous post mentioned–though the noise from the nearly shot circ saw bearings may have something to do with that! It doesn’t seem as rigid as the FHB article says–I’ve found the ends of the 12 footers to sag a good 1/4 to 1/2 inch, when supported in the middle. Nor does it seem necessary to pre-drill nail holes at butt joints, as long as the nail is an inch or so from the end.
Thanks for the help.

on my house i called the power and cable companies and asked them to come out and move the wires they were mounted into the sidewall about 6 inches below the trim boards under the soffit i sided all the way up to there attachment points and then had them moved up into the trim boards they did not charge me to do this
im sure if you called them and had them come while you were there they would wait while you replacedthe siding under the attachment points
