The best repair should be made from the back side of the tub. You'd need to build up at least 3 layers of mat and resin before you can make the cosmetic repair from the good side.
What Rick said. A clever person could probably figure a way to repair from the front side, using an "umbrella" patch of some sort, but it wouldn't be as good as doing it from the back.If properly patched on the back and then properly gelcoated from the front a nearly invisible patch is possible.
