As many of you know, I’ve been looking for something to put on the roofs of the martin houses I’m building. Someone suggested this stuff:
http://www.mfmbp.com/peelseal/index.htm
It looks kinda neat – Sure would be easy to put on. I just don’t know how durable it is.
I priced it at the local lumberyard, and unfortunately it’s about $100 a square. That would be about $6 worth per martin house, so I don’t know if it will fly or not.
Just curious if anyone had any experience with it………..
Roses are red, violets are black.
You’d look much better with a knife in your back.

Boss, how big are these houses? How big is each roof? Could you do it with coil stock? It comes in different widths, maybe there's a size you could use. Pretty cheap stuff.

The roofs are 25.5" wide, and 15" up the rake. (Times 2 sides)
I looked at doing coil stock, and may still. Just thought this stuff looked neat.
Since I'm an official redneck, andthing that goes on mobile homes looks neat to me.................(-:When I was a kid we had a sand box with quicksand in it. I was an only child... Eventually.
If you were truly a redneck you would use duct tape :)Never be afraid to try something new. Remember, amateurs built the ark, Professional build the Titanic.
You should just dress them up. Make Copper Roofing, that aluminum stuff would be for trash birds. PMs require something classy.
What I want to see is the truss designs and layout geometry of your Martin houses ;-PSteelkilt Lives!

Actually, purple martins are attracted to white houses for some reason. That's part of the reason I'm leaning towards going with white trim coil.Sometimes I wonder if men and women really suit each other. Perhaps they should live next door and just visit now and then. [Katharine Hepburn]
I did not know that about white attracting the Purple Martins.
Heck, I didn't know about it either. There's lots of information on the internet about purple martins. Some of it conflicting, as you might expect. I've learned a great deal over the past few weeks.......No man's life, liberty or property are safe while the legislature is in session. -- Mark Twain (1866)
I think the classic bird house roofing is galvanized sheet metal.
I missed anything about your martin houses. As a long time bird house builder I am very interested in hearing the story. Can you point me to a thread or two about this? Thanks.
Well, the threads weren't labeled as being about martin houses. Here are the 2 threads: (Read the first one first - Will make more sense that way)
