I am going to finish a sandstone basement and would like to know what the correct insulation/vapor barrier method is. I will also be using steel studs.

Self-installing an HVAC system requires a lot of thought and planning.

When you indicate "Sandstone Basement" I think of a house built into the hillside in the Arizona desert. You'll need to update your profile.
My first uninformed impression is leave it natural.

Been there - done that. "Nor-Side".
'Round here, much of the year, your wall will be moving lots of damp air into the interior. What I've had success with in the past is to build a wall inside the foundation wall, several inches in, vapor barrier on the side facing out. Insulate with foam. Use a treated plate. (I've used Tapcons inside of PEX tubing "shields" to fasten the plate to the floor.) Use paperless drywall. Treat the space between the new wall and the foundation as a crawlspace, i.e. well drained (french drain if needed) and well vented to outside.

Mike,

How do you fasten the vapor barrier to the outside face of the studs?
Insulate the stud bay? With foam
And how do you keep it well vented outside?

Any help would be much appreciated
