   Some more info would help, like what kind of wood, carpet on treads, stain, clear coat or both? Can you spray the whole works or are you stuck with a brush job?

   *Ahhh, sorry, very valid questions!Entire case and flooring is 19mm Ash, No intention of putting carpet anywhere. Preferably, I would prefer a finish similar to that achieved with Danish oil; deep, rich satin finish, clear preferably, although the oil does tint it slightly.I am not in posession of a spray unit, although if need be, I will get one. Brush,...Heck, I was going to wipe oil on wih a rag, so a brush is a luxury!Long and short of it is: Whatever kit is neccessary to acheive the finish!

   *Francis, The Danish oil makes a very rich looking finish however it in itself is not the best choice of a top coat. Many of my staircases have parts made from birdseye or curly maple, I use Watco oil to deepen the grain and bring out the rich colors. After letting everything dry for a week (depending on humidity) I top coat with Kemvar, a two part catalyzed finish that must be spray applied. Not recommended for the newbee. In your case I would go with the Danish oil as you planned however follow the instructions and put on all the necessary coats. I would not use the oil on the treads, use a poly grade of floor finish for that. Also keep in mind that ash will yellow alot with the oil.more later

   *Thanks very much for the help, I guess its just going to have to get smelly! I will however, do what you suggest, and go with the Poly floor finish on the treads.Is it just ash that yellows with oil, or most other hardwoods?Thanks for the response

   Sorry, this has probably been asked a million times before, but I cant seem to find any links...
   I have just completed a set of stairs and flooring, whats the best finish to use?
   I originally intended to use Danish Oil, but it does take a while to dry, and would probably end up in Divorce, as it STINKS!!
   Thanks muchly for any advice..
