I’ve got a cape cod with a 7′ wrap around porch roof, 80% porch /20% livable space below. The porch ceiling material will be non vented. The soffit which surround the house is 18″ deep and is fully vented Certainteed ironmax. The front and back porch roofs continue their venting thru the house roof to a ridge vent. The side porch roofs are vented where they meet the house side walls.
Essentialy I’ve got one big open space that goes around the house, I’ve been thinking about putting walls in the porch celing to slow the spead of fire
if it happens, perhaps a each corner and over the liveable spaces.
Any thoughts on venting or fire issues would be appeciated.
Thanks, Mike
Any words of wisdom would be appeciated

Mike,
You're looking at preventing the spread of fire..this is achieved by a few different methods.
Mineral wool or similar in roof cavities
Solid wood blocking to give a charring factor.
Sheeting with material that will give an adequate rating. ( firecheck board. hardies panels etc.)
All those suppliers should have literature detailing combinations of materials to achieve a satisfactory rating for you.

*Where are you? This will determine how much you vent the roof. The hotter and more humid the area the more ventilation. How about everyone put your approximate geographic location on your home page. That way you do not get a guy from south dakota telling you not to vent a roof on the coast.
*Rick:Good suggestion. Seems like a lot of people don't understand that many building methods are geographically/regionally specific.
