I am finishing up a Kitchen and today I removed the craft paper I had over the counters etc. while tiled the back-splash area.
and AHHHHHH!!!! there is an aprox. 2 sq. inch area on the surround trim of the cook top.
It is a GE Profile line in brushed stainless.
Are there people or methods I could use to “buff it out”???

IF the scratch is not deep I have had luck with using something like softscrub and one of those green scouring pads and was able to rub the scratch out. You have to go with the "grain" of the brushed stainless or it will really show up.
Good Luck
I have lots of brushed stainless in my kitchen. Notice the grain. Get some blue tape and tape an area 6" square. Get a spounge and some Barkeepers friend or Comet and make a thick paste and rub with the grain. It that doesn't do it, get some 320 or 400 grit SP and sand until it't gone, then use the barkeepers to even things out. I've seen the SS welders use an angle grinder with a wheel on welds to make'em look good too.
I work in stainless fabrication occasionally, so I've a bit of experience in fixing (or trying to fix) blemishes. If it absolutely has to look like new again, I would suggest you contact a shop that does a lot of custom stainless welding/countertops/hoods... Tell them what need and say you want their best finish guy to do this. Otherwise, try some light buffing with maroon or gray pads along with some of the barkeepers friend cleaner. If you use any sandpaper at all, you will most likely not match the existing sanded finish. It's almost impossible to match the existing by using hand sanding methods. One simply cannot move one's hand in that straight of a pattern. If you employ a rotary grinding, sanding, buffing wheel at all, you can kiss it goodbye because it will not match. You may have to dress the entire surface to get it all uniform.
Alternatively, own up to the home owner and try your best to ease the blemish. He/she will soon scratch it anyway. Our is certainly scratched from use and it doesn't bother us. We also have a GE profile cook top.
I've seen SS fabricators use about a 4" wheel on an angle grinder on outside welds and match the 304 brushed very well. It may be because the weld is softer. After it's cleaned up, they "touch and go" on the area.
Every scratch I've taken out with Barkeepers has been shinier than the original, but the scratches can be duplicated if you're careful.
Problem is on some BBQ pits and cook tops it's not real SS, just plated.
Scratch the hell out of the rest of it to match. More easier.

I've had luck doing this. One of the few things I have ever used my silly Porter Cable detail sander for. The sanding action is in a straight line back and forth on it. I think i chucked up like 80 grit on the pad.
Use the 3M scotch brite pads. The finest one, it's gray in color.
You can find them in the paint section of a hardware store. They are sold as synthetic steel wool.
If I understand you, it's just the frame around the cooktop. You may have to do the whole thing so it looks consistent.
Tape the corners where the brush direction changes.
Just FYI, the white pads are finer yet than the grey.Spheramid Enterprises Architectural Woodworks

If Pasta and Antipasta meet is it the end of the Universe???
OK
thanks to youse guys!!
Figured I couldn't make it any worse if I kept to the damaged area.
first used a Maroon scotchbrite pad with some H2O lubricant.
got it looking good and then used the green side of a used scrubbie sponge to blend.
Had to go abck over it a couple of times cause when the h2o evaporated the scratch re appeared.

Did it come out any shinier than the surround?
Not really.the maroon pad was a little coarser than the original finish.the green scrubbie is pretty darn close either a bit finer or a bit coarser.it is really hard to see unless you get at the right angle.from what I saw on the GE site, you have to get the WHOLE top..570+ spendolas!!!I can rub all week and still be ahead!!.

Thanks for the tip. I'll try it that way next time.
BTW, watch out for the faux stainless. Looks like it, but is much softer.
