I am building a detached garage and using hardiplank siding. Before installing the siding I am using harditrim to trim around the doors and windows. Can anyone help as far as how to properly seal the doors from moisture getting in between the trim and jamb. Caulk the top edge of the trim when I install the plank siding? Use some kind of tin between the trim and the plank? Thanks for the help.

I believe a recent issue of FHB or JLC has an article detailing proper flashing around windows and doors. You really should look at a picture if you're unsure how to do it. There might be some drawings in the archives here, try a search (and good luck) for "flashing windows and doors".
And when you get to the top, don't just caulk it. Top it off with properly installed head flashing. Best of luck.
*calvin is right on... just because you are using fiber cement siding and trim... you still have to follow all the conventions of flashing details...this means METAL....
