I’m hoping for some suggestions! We are replacing an elevated porch at home, built circa 1924… later two sections were enclosed on top of same porch. Last winter finally did in the surface… so we propped up the roofline, tore off the sunrooms, found a contractor to tear off and repour the surface. While the contractor stated it would be no problem to pour the sunroom areas level (each has a sliding door on the pitched side of the porch), we didn’t have quite enough height to pitch the porch and level the remaining areas (and still get a standard door under the fixed roof height). D’OH!
We get a lot of wind driven rain and some snow here… directly at these two sliders. In order to level the threshold, I need to either build up a sloped “patch” of cement on top of the new pour (NOT my favorite idea) or cut a wedge out of a pressure treated 2×4 (each slider is 6 feet… the level drops off about 1&1/2 inches across those walls) The previous homeowner had replaced one of the doors and built up a three inch cement sill – requiring you to step over the threshold… kinda like a short bulkhead wall on a boat! I was hoping not to recreate that same problem.
My concern is waterproofing/flashing the wedge under the threshold – given that water will be running across the length of the door as it falls off the side of the deck.
Is this a call for that special product with “miracle” printed somewhere on the side?!?
Any help greatly appreciated!
