I need to know if it is within “standards” to run “k” weight flexible copper tubing to a natural gas heater? I am trying to put one in an existing room about 35′ from the source and the cost and time to use black pipe is a lot. Any reasons I shouldn’t use copper for this purpose would be appreciated. I figure on K pipe to help guard against possible punctures.
Thanks

My utility in New York does not permit copper for natural gas, but it is permitted for flexible connections for propane. You should follow local requirements, or you risk having trouble selling the home. There is also some risk of leaks. Copper is not allowed in some areas because the local natural gas has components that are slightly corrosive to copper.
Also, in a fire, the solder will melt at quite a low temperature. Then the fire will get bigger real fast.
Use flexible Ward-Flex. It's the only way to go in a remodel situation. It is stainless steel with a plastic sheath covering.
