I’m installing an Insinkerator and am supposed to protect the electrical feed with flex armour. I don’t have a piece of flex big enough to slip over the 14-2 NMD.
I do have some scraps of #10-2 BX that, if I rip out the wires from the flex, might work. But only if I strip the loom off of the 14-2 NMD. Can I do this? (Loose interpretation of local codes need apply.)
I notice that the #10-2 BX has no loom inside the armour, other than a thin paper wrap. This leads me to think that un-loomed conductors inside flex armour are OK. I will be careful to install anti-short bushings and to ground the armour.
Thanks for the info.
Scott.

Is this commercial or residential? The standard residential install for a disposer uses a rubber cord.
You are in Canada. And while there electrical systems are the same there are differences in the code and designations.
In the US you can either use a cord on the GD and plug it into a receptacle or hardwire it.
All I have everseen is cord and plug. But I know that some places require hardwired.
Now I think that the NMD is the same as our NMB.
In the US you can run romex through conduit, although many people while claim that can't.
However, it be fairly large as you have found. And it is not "legal" to remove the sheathing. Although the wire is the same as THNN is only approved as the cable. Not saying that nobody has ever stripped the sheathing and run the individual wires in the conduit.
I am not sure what kind of flex you are talking about.
In the US there is an armoured cable, AC, but commonly called BX from either Broklyn or the part number of the orginal supplier. It is not a conduit (raceway), but rather a cable assembly complete with wires.
Again it is only approved as an assemble.
I would be less concerned if you stripped the sheathing from NM but then ran it on of the flexable conduits.

A-holes. Hey every group has to have one. And I have been elected to be the one. I should make that my tagline.
Thanks guys. This is residential. Typical code requirements around here (I believe) call for either NM in conduit, NM in flex, or BX. I know I'm being cheap. I've got a 3' stub of NM hanging out of the wall for this unit and I'd rather not splice it to BX in a junction box. Too messy. NM stuffed inside a 1/2" piece of flex is preferable but the big box stores don't sell empty flex armour around here. I think I'll do a conductor-ectomy on some BX to harvest the flex.Cheers,Scott.
