Need some insightful opinions.
I expanded a door opening from 24″ to 48″ and the opening will receive bi-fold doors. I took out 12″ on one side and about 24″ on the other side of the door to make the opening. The existing floor was 3/4″ hardwood flooring. Since I’ve removed the wall that the boards ran up to I now have the proverbial “what do I do next” blues in finding a way to cover the imprint left in the floor where the wall was. Since Ican’t possibly match the old flooring that was there….any ideas on how to clean it up and make it look seamless?

Fill in the voids with the proper thickness of filler, then apply a threshold to span. I would make my own using a complimentary material (oak, usually) and plane it down to about 3/8", check the overall height of the finished opening; you don't want to shorten it to the point of having to cut down the bi-folds - though that is easy to do if necessary. Dress the edges with either a taper or round-over, finish to suit.
Good luck.

Thanks. I already have to cut the bifolds down by 2". It's a short height to begin with, wasn't gonna make customer pay an extra $100 just to order special sized doors when the normal 80" doors are $23 a set. So I got some leeway if I need a span that raises somewhat as you suggest. If at first you don't succeed, try using a hammer next time...everything needs some extra persuasion from time to time. -ME
Harrisburg? I'm driving there Sunday to drop my son off at Messiah College. Gonna be a short visit, however, long enough to unpack, say good-bye, then back on the road. DW drove daughter out to Ohio last weekend. Can't wait until they graduate.
BTW, where you getting bifolds at $23 a pop? Up this way, the cheapest you can find are hollow core Masonites at $56. No tax included. No wood, either, the things are all fiberboard. I'm sure you know this, but 5/4 pine makes good filler for the bottom rail, and the cut off bottom makes a good template to drill the pivit hole with.

Yeah, Nick, at my HD here in Mechanicsburg they're $23. the 24", 30" and 36" are same price, $23. Not sure why, they're yellow tagged, must be getting rid of some or something. or a mfgr overrun, I dunno, but if you're coming up this way, grab a few and take 'em home and sell 'em for the $56 and make a few bucks :)
Yep, Familiar with Messiah college. Big college in the area, quite reputable and respectable. Your son picked a good place. Enjoy your brief visit to Harrisburg, but don't stay here, please, go back home, the city stinks to high heaven and the lowest of Hell right now because our legislators gave themselves a big FAT pay raise on July 7th. Bunch of greedy no good pigs. Harrisburg is a pig pen and it sure smells like it. Can you remove the rest of the floor under the door and make your "threshold" flush? Maybe from a different wood species and stain. Carefully cut and drop the new piece in, glued and nailed.
I get paid to do carpentry. That makes me a professional.
If I work on my own house does that make me a DIY?
Tha'ts an idea I can explore. Thanks. If at first you don't succeed, try using a hammer next time...everything needs some extra persuasion from time to time. -ME
Is the doorway to a closet? If yes steal some boards from in there.
Have a good day
