I need some help with decisions on flooring for a ten year old slab on grade multipurpose hall which was our former sanctuary. New sanctuary will be ready in a few months. This is basically a 3/4 size basketball court, about 3,550 s. ft. We want some resilience, okay for playing ball, but also suppers, possibly roller skating and other kids activities.
I can’t find anyone in South Georgia that does terrazzo….it looks like “sports carpet” or 12 x 12 commeIcial tile may be my options.
I know this is a bit of a stretch for F.H. discuF..n, but there’s a wealth of knowledge and experience out there. Thank you.

Greg,
A real wood or cork floating floor would be ideal over a concrete slab and cost effective.

*You've got to decide how important basketball and similar activities that would normally require some resilience. The simplest gym floor - typicaly a system with pads (edpm "bumps") stapled to a 1/2" ply underlayment and parquet on top. But the key is some uniform resilience to prevent injuries from impact - again - depending how important that is to th eowner.
*While wood might be a great alternative, I remember seeing something called (I thunk) 'Sport Court'. It is some type of a rubberized coating or maybe even available as an interlocking grid section. I saw it was suitable for various uses, indoor and outdoor applications available. Stuff like volleyball courts, tennis, basketball, playgrounds, street hockey, etc.I saw it in high school (about 10 years ago) in a sports equipment catalog. This was a huge catalog, in our athletic director's office. It had ALL kinds of equipment, gymnastics, lacrosse, phys ed, football, soccer, yadda yadda. So, you might try your local high school athletic department, or especially the athletically dominant regional high school. School sports powerhouses tend to not cut athletic spending as quickly, and so might tend to have this type of literature more readily available.I forget how much, but I know it would have been more expensive than regular asphalt for outdoor uses. I also don't know how useful it might be in your application, but it was being sold for use in school gymnasiums. Good luck!Sean
*Reading Mr. Pita's post saves me some typing. Check out the following links to flooring coatings/coverings. http://www.roll-on.comhttp://www.titecoat.comhttp://www.wnyfloor.comhttp://www.robinsfloor.com
*Glad to be of service. Sean
