I’m repairing an oak floor that has been water damaged. I am wondering if it is possible to match the color of the rest of the floor that was laid about 6 years ago. Any recommendations or success stories of using a tint or dye to blend the new with the old? Also, will the new flooring eventually blend in with the old once it has a chance to be exposed to UV rays after a year or so?
Anyone who’s done this successfully I’d like to hear from.
Thank you,
Richard

Six years is relatively new flooring. I wouldn't try and color match the patina. Use the same flooring (species, cut, grade) and color match the stain. It won't be a perfect match at first, but will come close over time.
Older floors...20 yrs. plus....you might try mixing some stains to get as close as possible.
Either way....make sure homeowner understands what you are up against. Getting a perfect match today, is no guarentee that it will remain so over time.
