I've seen product literature come into the Architectural firm, where I am employed, for the following manufacturers: Fypon and Spectis Moulding. Both websites are valuable tools and include links to their product literature which describes how to deal with both inside and outside corners.

I belive we've spec'd Fypon moulding on one project for an exterior residece in WI. It has been installed for about 6 months now. Looks good but I have no knowledge of what it is like to work with first hand.

Perhaps others will come along to help you more.

We've used a lot of Fypon. Works pretty much just like wood.

It does experience thermal expansion in the lineal axis so if you instal cold and anticipate it warming, you need to allow for that. But if you install at a normal room temp and the house wil stay that way, no problemo

What is your reason for wanting foam?

Make sure you have plenty of backing to nail/glue to.

It has the structural integrity of well cooked pasta.

Worked on a place where I needed to replace some exterior cornice that was about 8" high. I priced a Fypon product that was close, and then went to a local custom shop and priced it from him.

Even with the cost of the custom knife for the job, and with the mill using a spanish mahogany to get the lengths I needed, the Fypon was more expensive by about 40%. Delivery time was also about 6 week minimum on the fypon and I had the wood molding in half the time.

I would not use Fypon unless there was no other choice.

      I want your mill...

I was a little surprised too. But I was actually pointed in that direction by one of the workers from the lumber yard that was going to sell me the Fypon (among others).

The biggest problem was that going in the mill was like walking through a good hardware store - "I want that, and that, and that..."

          Thanks,

One thing I noticed about some of the foam mouldings is that they dont seem to have the crisp edges. has anyone used one that had lots of profile and edges that are crisp. I dident like the profiles with large rounded edges.

I was planning on using this indoors.

Fypon is actually made from forms molded on actual historic moldings. Those old molding are much more finely detailed than modern off the rack wood moldings.

Back to the Q I asked earlier - what is your REASON for wanting foam?

Knowing that can lead to recommendations for the best kind of foam for your situation or for an alternate recommendation that would be better, but we be shooting in the dark so far

I thought it would be easier to install, and cheaper. Im not so sure about that now. Im wondering if the pre-made corners pay for themselfs in labor savings. I saw some that were $3.50.

I see. I can't comment on any premade corners - never used any.definitely not cheap. The cheapest would probably be a styrafoam one (don't recall the brand name) instead of the stronger polyurethyene foam . It is installed as you finish the sheetrock by bedding it in mud.

You won't be able to match a pattern like egg and dart in corners if you use premade corners.
