Boy, those bring back some memories. Though never in wartime.
You get so tired you can fall asleep anywhere instantly. I usually take at least a half hour of tossing and turning. Can't sleep in a cor or bus. On extended ops, I'd climb in the APC lean my head back and instantly be asleep while we bounced acrost the desert. Takes a week with lots of sleep to feel normal again.
Hope the Brits in #1 don't get a "Gas! Gas! Gas!" wakeup call (mask & hood on while barefoot makes for great stories . . . later, much later, that is).
That mask carrier on your hip is a lousy pillow, too.
I saw the other day on the Weather Channel that it is only getting down to about 70° at night, too.
Warm bed not necessarily a comfort "in theater," either, not when it's under the flight deck of one of the carriers.
To quote the late padre: "Let us never lose sight of the Price that has been Paid, nor of those who paid that Price, or those who continue to pay the Price; that we might enjoy our Blessings and Liberty today."
Maybe the thread should have been titled "For anyone sleeping in a nice COOL bed."
I know them gas masks don't meak great pillows. But they'll do in a pinch.
I remember one time they kept me up all day working on something back when I was in the Army. (While we were out in the field) Then I was on guard duty all night. Then I worked through the next day. Then that night they announced we had to pack up and move.
When I stopped my truck and shut it off late that night, I had my gas mask lying on the seat beside me. I flopped over with my head on top of it. I didn't wake up until daylight the next morning. If you think this car is dirty, then you should spend a night with the driver!
No wonder the troops are "falliing behind The Plan."
Everyone's either sleeping or sitting around making mud pies.
Those pics make Tent City look like the Ritz.
#4 reminds me of "All Quiet on the Western Front "...
and #1.. was not my version of the army.. oh well.... they have seen the elephant
