Hitachi brad gun (not old and not unoiled) after unhooking/rehooking to air would be “piston out of sync” and wouldn’t shoot until a series of disconnected knocks to the head (I never liked that).
I since found if I disconnect from air, hold safety in the “go” position, hold trigger on—then connect air with these both held it will shoot (careful) and be ready to go. (don’t try this with a framing gun)

It sounds like you have some trash in the cylinder to me. Have you taken it apart for an inspection?

Kevin,
No I haven't--thanks for the advice. I was sure it wasn't old enough to be re-kitted so I didn't think of trash. Of course our construction site is always trash free///

I like your signature and where that comes from
a series of disconnected knocks to the head Sometimes it just feels good to stop working and smack yourself in the head a couple of times...cleans out the cobwebs...and reminds you that there are worse things to do.

Actually this is a technique that I used to use rather often on an old framing gun, pretty much every time it got unplugged.
I, like yourself, found that it also works on my Hitachi trim gun. I'm thinkin' there's maybe a design flaw here perhaps.
Mark,
That's interesting. I also have a Hitachi framing gun--there's a wild thought huh.

I'm still putting my money on trash or water in the cylinder. I just did the 3D jigsaw puzzle routine on my Stanley Bostich N80 when it started jambing and I couldn't believe all the garbage in there. I will be filtering my air from here on out.Kevin Halliburton

Fortunately the N-80 is a pretty straight forward thing to take apart and clean up, not a lot of small stuff to fall out. I was putting up some siding with mine and it started acting funny and not retracting after shooting. I took it apart and everything looked great. I was using the customer's Porter-pancake and did not notice the hose had flipped the switch off. I thought it had been kind of quiet on the site for a while. Old big yellow just couldn't get it up with 35 psi. After the required slaps to the side of the head followed by a couple of heads butts to the wall we returned to work.
I've never field stripped a rifle but I can't imagine the N-80 teardown was all that much more difficult.Kevin Halliburton

My bostich just began hissing at the trigger..I know what that means..my bostich stapler did that, I bought the new ring kit..guess what? NO rings for the trigger..had to order a new dohicky that can't be rebuilt..11 bucks I think..so, gonna order the whole shootin match before it craps out totally, then rebuild it..exploded view is on the site..

I really like that N-80! It's just tough enough that it can handle a little abuse and simple enough for a guy like me to fix it on the rare occasion when it goes down.
I found the entire manual and exploded view on the Bostich site for my gun too. That was handy.Kevin Halliburton
