I am trying to get a rough idea of what a full basement foundation for a 28’x40′ house would be in Maine, including excavation/backfill. I realize that it is a pretty vague question, I’m just trying to get a general idea though. Thanks!

Hey, I gave you my price to do it in Maine. If I was there I'd be broke and without work and therefore cutthroating.
Seriously, I would use numbers higher than Piffin's for the forming and pouring, and I'd add at least as much for the dirt work, then I'd add the dirt rough for the electrical, water service, septic, gas, and whatever else. Oh wait, you want waterproofing and drainage work? Structural backfill? No point in leaving those out. I'd say the conversation starts at about 30 in the best of circumstances.
no idea what the site is like, but he could esily spend thirty grand on site work/ dirt work besides the foundation.

matter of fact, I have seen some that could make that $99K price tag seem cheap if that included the dirt work.

I was teasing about the ninety nine five figure being too cheap...
all that you talked about would be about 42 / 43k here till you mentioned rough in utilities.. add 7 to 11k for that ..
septic would be high teens low 20's and that's if all goes as well as could hope for... ummmm what perculation would that be???
A well.. 18 to 2500 a hundred feet.. do I hear 600' coming up???
don't hit water.. get another 15 to 2500$ permit and drill again...
6 / 9k in structure permits..
more for utility permits...
after the 1st six inches it's solid granite... how much to punch a hole in that???
so 50k isn't much of a real figure.... seems you weren't that far off at ninety nine five after all....... for here....
and there are too many variables to consider....
I'm pretty sure what happens out here in the mountains won't apply to the OP... one county to the next can be as different as night and day......

Oh, wait, you want permits? Thought you had those. You didn't already put in your well and septic and road before I got here? Flat lot, dirt not rock, no monsoon in progress, the guy hires decent subs and knows how to line them up right, then I think I'm in the park. If he hires Piffin/Smith & Assoc., they add the 100% markup.... fergetaboutit.
ahhhhhh piffen / smith and assc....
why didn't ya say so to start with...
so now it's the sliding insurance scale...
that quarter mil might cover it... I hope...

How about we hire Dave for 50K, and we split the remaining 45K. Deal?
I am WAY more affordable than these other dudes. I'm thinking $30-50K oughta cover you but there are a ton of variables. If you're on granite then it's at least $99,500.
got an idea yet?
These guys like to play volleyball to keep a thread alive until somebody with an answer comes along...thanks guys for the setup
You'll have a good 36 yards of crete, formed and placed for between 250 and 300 = $9-11K plus the dirt work which is the greater variable according to site
