I need some advice on how to frame a roof over a bow window that we will be installing soon. Seen them on houses, never had to do it before. Window is approximately 11′ wide with an 18″ projection from the house.
Does anybody have any good ideas or a system that works well for them, open to suggestions.

Assuming a 45º degree angle bay, consider that the roof in your case is just an eighteen inch slice of an octagon roof. A crucial step is to determine the length of the ridge that lays agains the wall. After that you frame it just like any other octagon roof. Of course if the roof extends onto another roof it is a slightly different story.
If I were to describe the process it would read exactly as written in The Roof Framer's Bible by Barry Mussel. Plus it has diagrams that are sometimes more concise than those that are posted here. It can be overnited from amazon, barnes and noble etc. Purchase several copies.
If you would post your exact dimensions, pitch, etc., I or others would be happy to post the cuts that you would need.

*Yeah Joe,I recall that article, and there were some good techniques there. It may even be more pertinent here as I believe it dealt more with roofs over individual window units. Tom
