Hey all. Looking for tips/methods/tricks for framing around cold air returns in my basement for sheetrock. Was thinking of using 2×2 steel studs, but I am uncertain about the best way of closing them in. Thanks Joel

I assemble a half of ladder with 1-5/8's mtl studs and one track. Screw the assembly to the joists or blocking along side the duct. The stud pcs will be hanging down. Take a steel angle (20/26 ga.) and screw it to layout on the studs, leveling as you go with a laser if you have one. Do the same on the other side. Connect the dots with more 1-5/8's studs.
