Need to replace furring strips that have kitchen cabinets on them. The strips are 1″x3″ with 1/2″ drywall on top. These furring strips are old but the few that are still good are quite straight and 3/4″ thick. Checked the furring strips at the home centers and they are only 5/8″ thick and not nearly as straight.
Realize the cabinets have held fine for a long time but are 3/4″ strips recommended for hanging cabinets? The new furring trips measure only 5/8″ and do not seem thick enough. Also, considering buying 1″x3″ knotty#2 pine because they are 3/4″ thick or 2’x4″‘s laid flat but have some depth issues and would rather use the 1″xs if they are ok to hang the cabinets. Space is approx 9’ long and the extra cost of a 1″x3″ pine board is not that much. Thanks for any help.

I recently purchased some 1"x3" spruce "bridging" at a big box store that, IIRC, were close to an inch thick.
Probably your best option would be to rip strips of 3/4" plywood.
