I have only installed 6 garage doors. Every one seemed to need a fair amount of tweaking before they worked properly. The biggest problem is that even though the rails are level and plumb and the door is fairly level, after a week of use (or less) the door works its way to one side. Often this is so bad that a roller falls off. The door needs to be shoved back into its correct position. Then it starts all over until I move every bracket 2 or 3 times and it “magically” works fine. What am I doing wrong? In my desperation I have even resorted to following the manufactor’s instructions.

Rich, Sometimes it's as simple as adjusting the spring tension on either side. If you get a really bad one that you can't twink, drill a hole in the axle of the roller on the side it wants to drift toward and install a cotter pin to hold the door away from that side.

I'll assume you mean overhead doors. Your tracks should be parallel to each other. Also, how are you back supports? Is the track level across the top and are the two tracks level to each other when measured at the top? And be sure all the hardware is secure.
*Dang, Rich - Reading the directions ?You must really be desperate !!!...........(-:I had a lot of problems with the last garage door I installed. Couldn't get it to come down evenly. Someone suggested oiling the rollers, and that made a ton of difference.
*If the door can move from side to side enough for the rollers to fall out, sounds like the tracks are to far apart to me.

Rich:
You might also take diagonal measurements across the overhead part of the tracks to make sure they are square and centered with the verticals.
