Natural Gas?
Near the flue? Only during combustion?
I have done combustiona analyses on many gas appliances, many with abysmally bad, incomplete combustion and i have never smelled nat gas in the flue gases afetr combustion, no matter how bad.
I suspect it's another problem, but in any event, it could be very serious so you need to find the problem and get it fixed.
BTW, using ALL CAPS on the internet leaves many readers cold/
And try a heating contractor. My experience is that they tend to be stronger on combustion issues than some/many plumbers, at least in my area
