Gas fireplace enclosure finish detail???

MisterT | Posted in General Discussion on June 2, 2009 02:36am

We have installed a empire gas FP fir a cust. .

following the directions we stopped the drywall at the stand-off height, thinking that the available trim kit would cover the 3″ area.

WRONG….

so how are you supposed to enclose this area in a simple no surround application?

Use durock and mud it smooth??

The directions are not real clear on this.

we will prolly end up tiling with some durock but it would be nice to have a factory finish trim that would cover the ENTIRE rough opening…

BTW the HO got the FP from a P&H supply and dealt directly with the owner (yeah I know)

If you want good service go to a professional dealer but if you want things really screwed up deal with the owner…

any words of wisdom out there???

    Hi MisterT,

we will prolly end up tiling with some durock but it would be nice to have a factory finish trim that would cover the ENTIRE rough opening...

I had a similar problem with a "freebie".....almost as bad as a "owner provided". My freebie's trim was long gone.

I simply used the same material (tile in this case) that I finished the hearth with to fill in. I had a bit of extra spacing and ended up with three narrow layers of durock prior to the tile finish surface.

Lived there for years and never had a problem.

yeah that is what is gonna happen.but it would be nice for the install instructions to point out:this little 3" strip that needs to be non-combustible, and appears to float needs to be extended back to solid support, because or trim package won't cover..

        Was it made in China?
