I’ve done a lot of work on my own place, everything from framing to finish tile and cabinetry. My next major project is actually to build a new place in about 2 years. I’m interested in taking the CA General Contractor’s Licensing Exam as a way to get ready. (Just figure there’s a lot of good knowledge I’ll pick up, plus I have an interest in doing this longer term so it could be helpful to do the prep work up front.)
Does anyone have a prefered license prep school to attend? I live in the SF Bay area.
Thanks in advance.

I attended a one day seminar at a place called License Instruction Schools. It was right around the corner from the CSLB office. Not sure if they're still in business but it was worth it. I would go for the two day seminar if I had to do it again. When you get that license and start your first official job, thats the first day of GC school!

Just picked up my 3rd classification which is a b or GC. I moved from the SF swamp about four years ago. Never thought I would leave now I wouldn't think of going back. Anyway a friend of mine loaned me a book and cd and it was all I needed and is the cheap way to go. Same info as they are going to give you in school. "Peerless" (I think that is the spelling) is the company I have used for all three tests. I think it's around 90.00 for it. Bet they have a web site. The most important step is to rack up the hours on the projects for the required 4 years exp.
Good luck. I built my first one like you every nail. It was three storys in El Granada (next to Half Moon Bay). I'm about to start one of four across the street from my house. Finally a commute I like.
