GE Oven-cleaning problem/solution
I put my GR electric stove through its first cleaning cycle. After the cycle completed and the oven cooked, i opened the door and vacuumed up the ash.
When i next tried to use the oven, the cleaning light would come on, but the oven wouldn’t heat. I called the GE 24/7 hotline listed on the manual and got a recording that i had called outside business hours. (!) I tried flipping the breaker, opening/closing the door…nothing worked.
Looking around the Net, i found scads of reports of this problem and zero help from GE, which appears to have pretty awful customer service from what i read, as well as a lot of unsafe appliances.
Luckily, i found one forum post of a person who’d solved the problem by slamming the locking latch to the unlocked position. I had to slam the latch to the left (unlocked) position several times to get the damn stove to register that it was indeed unlocked, but i now have my oven working again.
Just wanted to pass it on…
