My excavator is digging the hole for my house. The water table is high. Approx 2 feet above the bottom of the footing. We dug 8″ below the bottom of the footing, dug a nicely pitched drainage ditch and am left with a mushy base in sections. I plan to install a layer of geo-textile, a layer of geo-grid and then 6 inches of stone. I am told that this is the absolute best way to stabilize the soil and spread out the load in situations like this. It also provides for excellent lateral drainage, preening the silt in the sub-surface water from getting into the stone. Has anyone ever tried or used this method? If so, any recommendations on ways to install. It seems pretty straight forward to me but there are always good ideas out there.
