I will be drywalling a sloped porch ceiling 16′ X 24′. Slopes from 8′ to 10′ high. What is the easiest/best way for someone working alone to get drywall onto the lift? I will be renting one. Thanks for any help.

When I did my family room, I set up the lift, made sure the floor was clean, and rolled it into position or close and locked the wheels, and angled the cradle down then spread the arms apart. I brought the sheet in front of the lift, good side facing the lift then lifted one end onto the clip, then the other.
Set a sawhorse perpendicular to the end of the lift. Clamp 2 short 2x4 scraps to the top the horse a few inches apart.
Set one end of the DW into that 2x4 notch and lift the other end. Move the end you're holding toward the lift and you're on.
Got it?

I like the idea of clamped on 2x4's. Thanks
Keeps the board from sliding off. As you move the board into the lift, the head will pivot to end up parallel if you start with the end closest to the sawhorse out past parallel.
If the farthest end (closest to you0 is farther out it doesnt work as well.
Have fun, 12' 5/8 board is for young guys.

Having hung many thousands of sheets of sheetrock, I would call up a buddy and bribe him with cold ones. Get the big sheets up and come back and hang the smaller pieces by yourself.
embrace the suck
I usually have a helper.
Used to do 5/8 fireguard 12' on ceilings by hand with 2 guys who knew what they are doing. Really not to bad when young and you know what you are doing.
Thought I would try it solo and see what I think.
Gorilla gripper might come in handy. I used one to move some sheets of OSB up a ladder a few months ago and it was the cat's meow. It paid for itself (CDN$60+/-) on that job.
That could snap the drywall.
It certainly is possible.
I would expect it would be OK as long as the sheet was kept relatively perpendicular to the ground. The gripper relies upon the weight of the material to keep its jaws tight on the sheet. If you turn it on its side I think it may let go but I must confess that the one I used was not mine and my experience with it is limited.
I think I might moved a couple of sheets of drywall with it when my buddy and I first started playing around with it, maybe not,I can't remember. The only real time I used it was to move sheet goods up a ladder which is I suspect a safety violation. (Does it well though.)
Tip the lift platform nearly vertical, run it all the way to the floor. Slide the drywall over to it, centered. Take a panel lift handle, slip it under the panel and lift it the couple inches onto the panel lift. Now, just flip the panel into a horizontalposition on the lift and away you go.
The lift that I can rent only goes to about 4' off the floor. when titled down.
Whatever you want to do with drywall just make sure you don't use toxic Chinese drywall, that's a controversial construction material that you don't want in your home. Just want to make sure you're aware of the risks.
cj.
Today I was moving some drywall scraps from a job.
Took 2 hands and picked up a 4x4 pc.............
Whoa, 1/2'' that felt like 1/4.
Asked my drywaller about it and he told me it's been around here (NW Oh.) for a bit. I'm thinking this USG product must be tested out in this market. I've not read nor heard about it.
Looking at the cut edge it looks as if there's "tiny" air pockets in it. The drywaller said it cuts, screws and everything the same as the heavier version.
This could lend new life to the old guys.
How's it take a punch? LOL

I don't know about that.
I do
I don't know about that.
I do remember building for college kids. In the restaurant/bar baths we often sheeted w/plywood first. Least they should do is feel it..........
well, at least the next day.
