The shelf is in and looks great!!! Took just 3 hrs., the finish mudding and texture will be a little longer. Used a Forstner 1/2″ bit, 4″ disk sander, 1/2″ dia. drill mounted rasp, sawsall, chisel, laser level. HO is very pleased. Mahalo to all of you for your suggestions, they all helped!!!
See picture.
How am I gonna get that in there!

Could you repost that in .jpg ?

Try this one, it's not a Jpeg, but then I'm not too good at this digital picture stuff. I'll take one today and see if I can get it in Jpeg of the finished product. Will be doing the texture and painting today. How am I gonna get that in there!
Or...PAHS Designer/Builder- Bury it!
Thank you.To both of you.=0)Hoohuli, now how are you going to get it to stay there ?And how are you going to finish the drywall so it doesn't look like crap next to the glass ?I don't think you can put much weight on the shelf at all, because it'll tear right out of the drywall. All that said, it looks like it could look pretty cool.Did you consider anything like low voltage lights behind it inside the wall ?

Here is a pic in Jpeg with the statue on it and the finish coat of mud and paint. The shelf is set 1 1/2" into the drywall and the studs. Tight fit, no wobble, or movement. Set it in adhesive silicon caulk in the studs. Only mistake was not marking the shelf and painting the part in the wall white before setting it in. No, no lights in the wall, but great idea for next time. This was a good learning project and came out very clean. Heavy statue held down with museum glue. How am I gonna get that in there!
Cool !
I think the silicone in the studs is going to help a lot.
I could imagine a low voltage light in that black pedestal, too. Shining up through the statue. Like maybe a really cheap, really small LED light. 1000's of hours on one little button battery.

Now there is a cool idea! I'm sure it can be done.

Hey, that finished product is really cool! What a great idea! I'm sure the HO is pleased.
Quality, Craftsmanship, Detail
Mahalo you guys! I like the idea of the light behind the glass, will have to think somemore on that. She had the statue on an ugly wooden box pedestal and wanted something different. Also, we had the glass tempered, not sure if that was a good idea or not? Now to take some of the pics of it down to the glass shops and see if they can drum up some business for me. Come to think of it there is no time with the way building is here. the stucco people over here have a 2 year waiting list going right now.
To do it in new construction would sure make the cutting of the stud channel easier!!!!
How am I gonna get that in there!
