Hi everyone,
I realize this is of little/no interest to folks outside my area so I’ll keep it short. Can anyone recommend a good lumber yard in the Dutchess County, NY area? Right now I’m particuarly looking for some fir or poplar wainscot (tongue and groove) but as we’re remodeling much of our house I’d love to find a well-recommended yard. The selection at our local HD and Lowes leaves much to be desired, even to my amateur eye.
Thanks for your time!
Sergej

There's a pretty good yard in Pine Plains. I can't remember the exact name though. It's ----- Hardwoods. I don't think they carry much in the way of framing materials though. There's a Williams Lumber in Rhinebeck for that.
Have you tried Condon Lumber? Back when I lived out Easy, they had a very good selection of hardwoods, plus they advertise in Taunton publications.

Not doubt'in ya, but they have yards in Stormville and White Plains. I would have hyperlinked it, but the name *www....) seems to have been highjacked.

Andy,
The woman applauding was NOT my wife (Chris [DW] was standing next to me as I took the shot). Mine's much cuter anyhow, just like Katrina....

Yeah, ask him to visit the "tavern"
I have spent time in Condon's Stormville location. They made the pattern model from which the mold was cast for ThermaTru's first ClassicCraft fiberglass door.
We went through five full bunks of 4/4 RS red oak selecting out the boards to use for the model, and there was half a carload more to choose from.
I recall seeing there for the first time, a laser line straightline rip saw. Blade in the middle of a huge table, power feed, laser line projected down along the cut line, just line up your board the way you want it cut, and send 'er through.
Now I remember, it's New England Wholesale Hardwoods

Thanks guys! Pine Plains is not too far from me. I found a listing for Condon Lumber Co in White Plains which is on my way to work. I'll check both out. Again, I appreciate the help.
Best,

Check to see where the nearest Dykes Lumber is. I can find the 800# for you if you need it.
