Have any of you out there used this material? It’s a gypsum tile substrate for floor and wall tile; alternative to Durock/ Wonderboard/ Hardiboard.
I’ve used DensShield Gold as wall board in potentially damp areas and I’ve seen it used recently as exterior sheathing on commercial buildings, but the Tile Guard is a new one to me.

I don't do that much tile, but I use Dens-shield every time. It is great to work with and it seems to do the job. Every time it comes up, people post that they wouldn't use it on a floor, but no one (to my knowledge) has ever posted that they used it and it failed.

What's your method of fastening? Glue and screw or ??? I assume you were using it for walls. I haven't seen the stuff yet but the HO on my current project is interested in putting it down as backer under his floor tile. His Sister is a tiler in Seattle and says she's used it some...thinsetted it down and screwed it just like cement board.
I'm interested in trying it, but only if it's what GP says it is. I've been pretty happy with DensGlass Gold except for the post-handling itch. Seems pretty unaffected by moisture.Jules Quaver for President 2004

Actually, I've not used it for walls, only floors (but I will use it for a wall if and when that arises).
I thin set it down and then nail it. 1¼ inch roofing nails. Seems to me that the first time I used it, screws were not given as an alternative in the instructions. The instructions last week listed several kinds of screws.

I've been wondering the same thing.
Any thoughts on DensShield or any similar products vs. Hardibacker?

I used it this fall on a bathroom reno. Both on the walls and the floor. On the walls I installed it as if it were DW. On the floor I installed it over thinset and screwed. Both applications I used silicone sealant on the joints that the gypsum was exposed then taped with mesh tape and tiled as per.
Worked well and is easier to work with it. Go ahead and good luck.
I use it as my basic substrate on bathroom wall tiling jobs. My tiler loves it.
You need to make sure you do not use anything else above it on the walls (like for a full height stall job) because it is not exactly ½" while ½" drywall is.
I use cement board drywall screws for steel studs, topcons with pre-drilled holes on concrete block and regular drywall screws on wood studs.
I also use the PL adhesive to put on a blob of glue. One thing I've also found it it works well when I use my 6' level for full height walls to make sure it's dead on.
At my age, my fingers & knees arrive at work an hour after I do.
