Hi guys, Has anyone used 12″ x 12″ granite tile on kitchen and bath counter tops? What is best to use to set it? Mastic or thinset? How do you keep it level when setting it? How do you waterproof it? I have some acylic sealer I got for floor tile grout that is suppose to last 15 years, will that work? I appreciate your comments. Thanks!

Dont use Mastic. Use thin set. If you use mastic you will get bleed through which makes the beautiful ganite look splotchy. You need a sealer for special for natural stone. you need to use unsanded grout. especially cuz the grout lines should be as little as possible I use cut up charge cards for spacers when doing granite. You should have your substrate level prior to laying the granite and use the thinset to help "fine tune" it. I hope this helps.
BTW by you questions it sounds like you might be looking to cut corners. Granite is the one material you dont want to go and cut corners with. BTW what are you useing for substrate and underlayment . You might want to pick Micheal Burnes book or John bridges book on laying tile. I think I would be very helpful to you
