Has anyone been doing work – remodeling – in this section of the state? We are considering moving into that area to be closer to family and would like info on the state of the construction business if possible.
Thanks.

Tony,
I am a couple of hundred miles ESE of Springfield. For the past ten years or so carpenters and other tradesmen from here would go up to Branson to work when things were slow. Always seemed to be new commercial and residential work available there. I don't know if that is still true today. With all of the construction going on here no one needs to chase work. I would be surprised if someone told me the residential construction market was depressed in Springfield or Branson. If I were you I would ask my relatives to send me the help wanted adds from a Springfield newspaper. A call to lumber yards may give you leads to contractors who may be hiring. Don't know what the wage scale is in Soap Lake but it is most likely higher than what is going in the Ozarks.
Good luck.

Steve,
Thanks for the feed back. I'm fairly confident that the Springfield market is worth getting into. And it's true the people at the local lumber yard can help you get ahead or behind, it just depends on how you treat them and what kind of work you do when they forward your name to a potential customer or employer. Wage scale goes from 11 to 16.00 hour here for carpenters with multiple abilities.
