Boxed cornice returns are becoming boring to me, but thats all I have ever built. I really like the looks of the greek revival returns and wonder if there are any tips, tricks or standard practices someone may be willing to share.
With a roof overhang of 12″, what dimensions do you use for the return. Is there a standard pitch for the hips or is it whatever looks good? How far does the return project past the fly rafter? Can you build it around the “fly rafter” or should in be built first with the fly rafter dying just above it?
I suppose I could spend some time fiddlin with some scrap lumber, but I’m not real big on reinventing the wheel.
Trying to save some time.
Thanks
Ron
