Guertin – Using shingles in a shower?
I was looking for an article in the archives to pass on to someone.
So I went there and did a search use Mechanical for catagory, plumbing for sub-catagory, and SHOWER for the seach term.
I did find the article that I was looking for.
But it also showed this one.
“Four Ways to Shingle a Valley
by Mike Guertin”
Now that should be an interesting show.
I must have missed it in the magizine. But using shingles in a shower is certainly an “different” application.

Don't be too surprised, it's been done b/4. These homowners were rather "earthy".

I've used cedar starter shakes in a shower in an old farm house. It looked rustic and held up well. I used visquine over green board with 1/4'' nailing strips. I used a finish nailer blind nailing with 5' reveal. Finish the job by sealing the shakes. Corners are tricky and require some modification for fit. Be sure to leave small gaps for expansion. I did this in a dry climate and may not be suited for more humid regions

Don't fool yourself. A shower is a humid region in any climate!

I routinely shingle my showers in an effort to keep the water directed toward the drain. The shower valleys are particularly complicated - not to mention the hips.
