My son has 5-6 electric guitars on stands. These take up a lot of floor space and I was wondering if anyone has come up with a rack or some kind of display case or somthing attractive to put the guitars up on the wall
Thanks for any suggestions.

There are special ushaped hooks out there, (check music stores) but the bin at HD or Lowes will have U shaped vinyl coated hooks (red or yellow) that hold a guitar by the neck quite nicely for ~$1 each.
Space a few out on a piece of oak and you have an attractive wall mounted guitar rack.
Although some guitar shops frequently hang guitars by their necks it's best to let them sit the way they do on a stand.
There are single stands that will hold multiple guitars if the main reason is the need of floor space.

That 'some' should be changed to 'most' guitar shops. They want to keep them off of the floor and being knocked over, handled or otherwise damaged by customers. Most guitars won't have a problem when hung on a wall and if the Les Paul is still one of the heaviest, it's about 17 pounds.

Ok, we'll use the term guitar shop for Sam Ash and GuitarCenter then. Roar!

I was kinda thinking of George Gruhn's shop in Nashville, actually. They hang 'em high on the walls, too. (If I could only find my ocarina) I have never seen a problem from hanging guitars on the wall and I worked at a git-fiddle store in the '70s. Some, we didn't hang and they stayed in their case but that was because they were really rare, like 1958 Korina wood Flying V or 1926 L-5, signed by Lloyd Loar. If I only had the scratch for those two when they were in the store,..... Oh well.

If I only had Ya, isn't that how it goes.
I guess the hanging thing is more a matter of caution in principle than anything else.
Personally I always carry a better impression of a shop when I see the guitars sitting rather than hanging.
Not saying it is necessarily hard or bad on the necks to do so knowing high volume shops with a lot of traffic have to adapt to things to keep everything in check.
be betting they don't hang there own axes at home tho'.

Its a pretty good design and not a lot of cost involved.
that is so simple, but a great idea. I'm always impressed what a person can come up with when he puts on his thinking cap. I'm going to build one.
Thank you for the excellent ideas. I've been in music stores and have never seen any stands for more than one guitar. Thanks again!.++++++++++++++++

Excellent thread idea Mr. fixit,
very timely for me as I am just starting to look around for a design for a multi- guitar stand my self. I will be building it as a graduation gift for my son.
I have been hoping to find plans for something that will hold 4 guitars upright--- but in a more circular configuaration--- like an umbrella stand. also need a compatible music stand.. I got a taste of bentwood laminations this fall and I am eager to build something REALLY wild.

I'm thinking about building the stand this weekend out of plastic pipe.I think I'll glue the joints together without using the purple primer
and then spray paint it black. Thanks again!.++++++++++++++++

Good luck - and post a picture when you are finished.
