I want to do an overpour on the 1st floor of my ranch house which has 2×12 floor joists. I am thinking of using gypcrete from Maxxon. is there a better product? I have heard from a local cement contractor that you can get a special lightweight mix from a local concrete supplier. any one have any bad experiences with gypcrete? thanks.

Hi Ed,
It depends on;
Why do you want to build up your floor?
What you want to cover the gycrete with,later?
How much of a cover were you planning on putting down?
Does your floor flex now?
Is it subject to loading with heavy pieces of furniture?

*I already have radiant heat in my plaster ceiling which has cause several cracks all over. I am in the process of expanding my kitchen which will have no heat. building the floor up will not be a problem since I am replacing all doors and trim. I will cover with ceramic tile in kitchen and bathrooms, possibly a laminate hardwood in living/dining room and carpet in bed rooms. I don't believe there is any flex in the floor. I am thinking of going with gypcrete unless there is a better product.
*Nothing wrong with Gycrete as long as you ensure it has properly cured BEFORE you cover it with anything.Gabe
*You should really consider using a "dry" hydronic radiant approach using a radiant panel product in-floor. Check out Warmboard.com.
