…day 2 of 11 days off with nowhere to go. No obligations beyond hosting Christmas morning with two of my kids and one of their husband, all of whose company I enjoy immensly.
Gonna read late, sleep late, get a belly full of good eats several times, chase the missus around the house a little, spend some time in the darkroom, do some serious napping, read a little, watch a few movies, do a little work around the house, read a little, sleep late…
Happy holidays, everybody. Life is good.

You still work with film? That's great! Do you do color in your darkroom?
Color? Yeah. It's not mine, though. I just have access to the photo labs at a local college. Really nice facility - can print anything up to 40" wide x however long. Got a serious backlog of negatives I want to print and haven't taken time to. I am planning on locking myself in there for a couple days this week and going hog wild.

I'm trying to expand my digital knowledge, but I sit in front of a computer all day, so messing with digital software doesn't do much for me. Plus I still need to find a place to make large prints.Having access to someone else's darkroom sounds like the ideal situation. I've thought about setting one up again, but I doubt I will.I do want to get one of those digital frames that you can load with pictures though. But I want one big enough to hang on the wall, like a painting. It's been a while since I did film. I took the film cameras with me to Europe, but never got a chance to use them.I just watched the last episode of "The Last Shot" or whatever it is called. Reality show about people trying to become fashion photographers. Looked like everything there is digital now, but maybe because HP was the sponsor.I've never done any of that type of posed work myself.
happiness is getting a new puppy.
Picking up little Mia today. My little Julie got hit by a car just before Thanksgiving. Been in mourning for her since. I feel like I lost one of my kids...
We're still in mourning but I think Mia will help. Not replace but ease the pain a little.

<<I still need to find a place to make large prints.>>Friends of mine who own a jewelry gallery recently showed me large prints of their work which they got at Costco for dirt cheap...i seem to recall they said $3/ea. for them. The quality was superb. I don't know what my friend uses for a camera, but he shoots his own publicity photos in a small, lighted box he made, which he's been doing since film days.I'm pretty sure he told me he emailed them the file, then picked up the finished product at his leisure. Here's a review:http://homie.dijas.com/blog/2006/01/04/costco-photo-services.html
Cool, thanks! I'll have to figure out if they can do maps too, as that is one of the other things I want. I think I was seeing something like $3 per sq. ft. for larger prints other places.
If the maps are digitized, i don't see why it wouldn't work just fine, though i don't know how many formats Costco can accept. I asked my gallery friends if they sent .jpg files; they did.
Most of the maps are pdf images. I didn't notice pdf on the web site, but I'd be surprised if they couldn't print them. However, them may not want to deal with the image size in their e-mail system.
I don't know about Jim, but I like to color at my desk, or the kitchen table. (Which, according to nasty comments I have heard, looks suspiciously like my desk.)There's more light there, and it's easier to stay inside the lines.

Jim,
Enjoy your break.
I'm also kicking back for the week, although it wasn't really planned to be this way.
(Tim flew down to Florida to see his mother get married and a scheduled job got set back a month)
But actually it is working out great - I convinced my son and daghter-in-law to let me keep the grandkids out of daycare for most of the week and am having a ball. Grandson is 5 (tomorrow) and the granddaghter is 18 months.

You've got it going, doode... if you get near a bookstore check out "Naked Came the Manatee"... you can pretend your one... might get lucky and trick Kathy<G>
Happiness is...
A full tank of gas and a wallet full of money.
Better get your prints made while you can. Silver gelatin paper seems to be becoming an endangered species - as are wet darkrooms. I need to get to work and scan a bunch of negatives and try doing some really good digital prints. If you want to set up your own wet darkroom, I happen to have a couple of surplus Omega D3 4x5 enlargers that I will let you have for less than I paid for them...
So how's it going? Had enough yet? Or are you ready to make it a lifestyle? LOL
Really getting into it now, man. Stayed up past midnite last night, slept until 8:30 this morning. Work around the house for a couple hours then just sit down and read, or listen to music, of just think for a while, then get up and get one of Kathy's famous lemon bars out of the freezer, then take a nap, then repeat...
Still got a few days, and helll no, I haven't had enough. I did actually talk with a potential employee today and e mail a customer about a schedule change, but that's as close as I've come to working in over a week now.
Only had one dream in which I imagined an extra job partially completed that I couldn't figure out where or what the job was...used to have that dream all the time a few years ago...no, I am getting a nice look at what I imagine my retirement will be like. I could definately get used to this.
How's things out your way?Ever wonder why "holistic" doesn't start with "w"?
Going great. Second 4 day weekend in a row. Drank a half a fifth of Great Scotch last night. I could get used to this life too. But I better not. "Fat drunk and stupid is no way to go through life son." Dean Wormer
But I could get used to not working. Happy New Year Jim.
