Sorry to post this again but I think I had it in the wrong category. I’ve reviewed the many posts regarding issues similar to this but haven’t found anything that speaks exactly to my question.
I’m getting ready to install Hardie Plank siding on my house. The only unusual part of this is that I’m installing it over 1″ Poly Iso rigid foam. I’m wondering if a 2 1/2 ring shank siding nail is going to be long enough considering I need to go through 3/8″ hardi + 1″ foam + 1/2″ sheathing before I hit the studs. This leaves about 5/8″ of penetration into the studs. Is that enough or should I use my framing nailer and shoot around a 3″ nail? Anyone have any experience with this that could make a recommendation?
Thanks

Screw verticle 1/2" treated plywood furring through the foam 16" oc and nail away on the Hardie in the same fashion you would without the foam.
Pedro the Mule - Good choice using foam
if you mail directly to the foam will have a wavy surface that will be almost impossible to control....
nail to firing strips
