I would like some advice on different hardware options for some double 1 3/4″ pine doors I’m building. These doors will open inwards. What is the best system for fixing the passive or non-opening door.
Most systems use a bolt method, but I’m concerned that this will require constant adjustment when the door contracts and expands and the bolt no longer lines up with the hole in the sill.
What do people think about the commercial brass systems that are inset into the door edge at top and bottom. Are these strong enough.
All help is really appreciated

Not sure why you think the flush bolts are commercial. They weaken the door by nature of the mortises required to install them. Never get hung up on door locks securing doors, security is an illusion. Still you need something to keep the door from blowing in with the wind so take your pick flush or surface. In reality double doors on the front of a house are rarely both opened.

*The edge mount mortise bolts on the passive door work great. There are tricks to installing them that only comes with experience. The bronze weather stripping keeps the door from banging around. I don't think the mortise makes the door weak. Don't buy the cheap ones. Get the Ives or Baldwins. For 8' doors you add a piece of all-thread to get the throw latch down where you can reach it. Make the keeper hole big enough so as not to create a battle to throw the bolt, but keep it tight enough to do it's job. Installing these things properly is an art. Done right, they are a thing of beauty. Done badly, your customer will cuss you everytime they try to open the door.Ed. Williams
