Hello –
What can be done to refinish a hardwood floor from the 1950’s that seems to be finished in what appears and feels like wax ?
Could it be sanded or should something be done with the wax finish first ?
Or am I mistaken with the type of finish used from that period ?
The floor is in good condition because of carpeting that was covering it.
Maybe the tackiness in the feel of the floor surface is from the foam carpet padding ?
The floor will need to be refinished at some point.
Thanks,
Alan

Get some wax stripper (liquid) and strip the wax as best you can. Then get a buffer and rewax it. You'll be surprised how nice it will look.

Thanks, Tim -
The house will be a rental for couple years while my parents make up their mind about moving in.
Although area rugs will be in place, there will be some rental abuse to the floors.
I guess it will be easy enough to refinish later, especially if polyurathane is used ?
Since it seems the wax finish is not a penetrating type, it will sand off easily for refinishing with something else.
