Ready to put a 3/4 inch prefinished, 4 inch wide, t&g, Brazilian Cherry floor in my kitchen. It is over a dry, full basement in New England. Subfloor is 1×8. Three questions, better to use nails or staples? And which is better, red rosin paper or 15 pound asphalt felt between subfloor and hardwood? The floor is going in before the cabinets. Do I need a 3/4 inch space on all sides of the floor, even at the long ends? for expansion? Thanks.

personally prefer the staples, use plenty every 6-8", the 4"has a tendancey to cup because of the width.
Mark where your cabinets go and you only need it under and through the tokick area and the ends. also where the ref. goes and under the stove and dishwasher.
save scraps or bad boards and put them near the wall by themselves for the rear of the cabinet support.
knock them extra tight through the kitchen so stuff doesn't fall in the cracks. You could also check your subfloor with a moisture meter and try to have it under 3-4%. Good luck.
