We are considering using sand instead of gypcrete, but haven’t seen the article you refer to. Our builder can’t see why it wouldn’t work, and it would be much cheaper. Can you refer to the article?
Thanks,
Susan

*The Article is in the latest JCL... or you can go to http://www.jclonline.com. The story is online there.
*Yes, That's the article I saw. Just didn't know people were doing that? Sand in place of gyp-crete. If it works, why wouldn't everyone use it for a hardwood application?

I've checked out the article in JLH. It seemed to indicate a sand layer under concrete or gypcrete. You seem to be saying that you'll replace the gypcrete with sand. Is this correct? I'd be interested in exploring that concept. What led you to this in the first place? What about weight - is this over floor joists or a slab?
I'd really appreciate your reply.
Thanks

A recent article in another mag gave lots of good info about this topic, but one sentence blew me away. He said tehy sometimes use sand in place of gyp-crete for thermal mass. Seems to make sense, has anyone else heard of or tried this?

Hello all-
Why don't you guys consider using RFH without the gypcrete. Stadler and other companies make a system that can go below the floor or on top of the sub-floor then cover with finished floor. The system is expsosed during finish floor installation to minimize leak potential mistakes. Just a good as concrete floor and more compatiable with wood subfloor. Check out their website and other like it.
