Help! Bosch SCMS died

Lateapex911 | Posted in Tools for Home Building on February 14, 2006 01:55am

I’m wondering if the collective wisdom here might have an idea to help me get rolling again. My Bosch 10″ Sliding compound mitre saw died today. When I pulled the trigger, it started to turn, but made only 1/8 of a revolution. Then nothing. Of course, I checked the outlet, which was fine, and tried two more, all to no avail.  I pulled the brushes, as that’s quick and easy, but they looked great.

So, any ideas? Are there any known issues that could cause such a failure? I considered the switch, bt they ususally get flaky before they fail completely.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Check switch . Does that model of saw have a blade brake ?  Or may have a short in armature. Also check electrical cord, may have a broken wire, check  each wire with multi meter an wiggle wires to see if you got continuity ( unpluged  of course) Check simple things first. . All else fails, take it to repair shop. hope this helps.

IF IT WAS EASY, EVERYONE COULD DO IT!

did you manually spin the blade and try it again ? may be a dead spot on the commutator ?

look for sawdust UNDER the brush cap ?

hold the trigger and wiggle the cord ?

I have the same saw, replaced the trigger/switch works just like it did before.  That is the trigger/switch works but the brake is 50/50.   Any one know how to fix the break?

I had a similar problem happen to me a few years back. It was not a bosch saw but I thought this might help you get closer to a cure. I sent the saw in for repair and it turned out to be the cord. It could still be the switch but based on what you said which is axactly what happened to me. squeezed the handle and blahhhhhhh.......
1/8 turn of the blade and then nothing. Try replacing the cord, it's cheap enough and you can do it yourself. Just be sure to get the same guage wire.

Hope this was of some help. Good luck.

    Ray.

LOL, Funny, Tim, but I will likely take your advice as well as the others!

It didn't break when I didn't need it, you know? LOL... I went home early because I can't knaw thru boards with my teeth, at least with out leaving a little chip out.

      Hitachis has an intersting 12"-er.

I will chack continuity first thing tomorrow AM on the switch and related circuits. I checked for sawdust, but it was pretty clean, nothing in places that it shouldn't be.

And yes, I did the spin and trigger trick, and ....nothing. I felt like I was trying to start a lawnmower with a tank of water for gas.

Thanks guys, I was hoping that, like the Bosch routers, five guys would respond, "It's the switch, common problem...part number:XXX-XX", but I figured it wasn't going to be that easy. I imagine it is kinda simple, but will be out of service for too long.

Maybe it's the new back up/framing saw, LOL.

Well, the winner is Grott! A new trigger is on the way from Bosch in NJ, and shuld be here tomorrow AM. Mine had a burned bridge.

Love it when it is fast and cheap.

The Hitachi will have to wait....they'll make it better anyway, LOL...Jake Gulick
