How wide is the chimney and what pitch the roof?
A small enough saddle can be done with just the metal and no need to shingle

About 3' on a 6 pitch roof . I am using 3d shingles and I dont want the valleys to be noticeable from the ground. The chimney is boxed out 2' from the house and the valley starts 2 1/2 corses from the eves. Being a prime spot for an ice dam in has to have a saddle.
